This is the first martial arts book that I have seen in which the author sets
out how students at university can be taught enough of a certain style to be proficient.
Students often find it hard to train in depth due to work and becuase of terms
ending.
Clark not only shows what skills and techniques he feels are needed, he also
puts forward good rationales as to why he thinks so.
Unlike many other books that mention 'vital points' and in which pictures of
a man with areas such as nose, groin, upper lip are pointed too, Martial Arts
in the University actually describes and shows the location of many interesting
and usefull pressure points.
Yet another unique feature of this book is that every point covered has a special
page that the students can photocopy and make notes on whilst attending class
or seminars. This man is a true visionary!
Pressure Points are further expanded on in the Karate chapter. Clark demonstrates
the Kata Naihanchi 1 aka Tekki Shodan aka Chulgi with easy to follow instructions
and clear photographs. He then goes on to demonstrate how the moves within the
kata can be used to strike pressure points and render opponents helpless.
Summary.
Martial Arts in the University is a gem and I heartily recommend
that, whatever style you study, you make this part of you library.
This is an ideal manual for instructors at Universities and the
four arts covered blend well in to an eclectic style. A PMA Must
