In a TKD pattern called Dan Gun we execute a 90 degree turn to
the left performing lower outer forearm block, and then left rising
block, emphasising the hip twist and returning the left fist to
the right hip before executing the rising block.
This section of Dan Gun is a prime example of where the 'traditional'
way of looking at patterns really falls down. 'Traditionalists'
would describe this as turn left 90 deg, perform lower section block
for kick attack followed by high section block of downward attack.
Then, as the attacker moves backward doing down strikes the defender
moves forward doing high section blocks.
Yuk! I look at it thus. For a right hand grab from the side to
the left shoulder.... Turn left stepping forward into a low stance,
perform a low section (block) strike into S9, just above knee, and
follow up with a rising (block) forearm strike to St9. This can
be followed up yet again with more rising (blocks) strikes.
