Today was the first Lions Cub grading in the history of Exeter Practical Martial arts, and I’m pleased to say that the students put in every bit of effort I’ve come to expect of them.
Over the course of nearly an hour they went through a wide range of techniques and concepts, with the final 15 minutes of their grading being watched by members of the Adult class. Despite this, they carried on and gave it their all.
Techniques covered were Defence Stance, Palm Heel, Lead Front Kick, Rear Front Kick, Left Break Fall, Right Break Fall, Back Break Fall, ‘No’ enabling, Check strike and run and the hasty retreat, Heels to bottom switch and knees to chest switch.
Concepts covered were the definition of a Bully, the definition of a Stranger, why we use ‘No’ and ‘Back’, why we shuffle-step, why we don’t look back in hasty retreat, how to tell teachers about bullies and strangers and why we don’t use fists, to name but a few!
The parents have every right to be proud of their sons. They were true Lions.
